Week beginning 7th June 2021
We have been reading 'What the ladybird heard' by Julia Donaldson. We designed and created our own ladybird using paper plates, paint and pipe cleaners.
We have really enjoyed learning about sustainable farming in our role play area. We have been selling, fresh fruit, vegetables and milk in our 'Farm Shop'.
We have been using our class interactive white board to practise blending phonemes together! We have been playing 'Buried Treasure' this week. If the word we read is real, it goes in the treasure box, if it is a made up word, it goes in the bin.
Week beginning 24th May 2021
Acorn class have been learning all about Caterpillar Metamorphosis! We have had our class caterpillars since the beginning of the summer term. They have since grown and have now formed a protective chrysalis around them. On Wednesday we arrived at school to find one of the butterflies had come out of their cocoons! We were all so excited!
In Maths, we have been learning all about spatial reasoning and shapes. We have been using various 2d shapes and seeing how we can arrange them to create different shapes and patterns! Have a look at the house we created out of squares, triangles and a semi circle!
We have been writing about The Lion King this week. We used various collage materials to create our own lion pictures in the creative area.
We have been working really hard on our letter formation, phonics and sentence writing!
We have taken part in lots of activities this week to develop our fine motor skills. We used plastic pens, peg boards and aces to create a range of 2D shapes! Can you guess what shape Onyinyechi is creating?
Children in Acorn class have had the responsibility to capture their friends in action using our class iPad. Children were challenged to capture pictures of things they thought their friends were doing really well!
Week beginning 10th May 2021
We have been learning about mini beasts in Science this week. We created a 'bug hotel' out of natural resources we found in the outside area.
We have been practising how to add two groups together. The children have been learning the symbols to use when writing out a number sentence for addition.
On Pajamarama day we spent time discussing our favourite books and authors. We sat in small groups in our reading corner and read our favourite books to our friends!
Happy International Week! This week, we learnt all about the amazing continent of Africa! Our main country of focus was Nigeria. We learnt about popular Nigerian dishes, traditional clothing and even spent time doing some African dancing! It has been a wonderful week of celebration African culture!
This week, we practised our ball skills during PE. We learnt that it is very important to keep our eye on the ball when we are receiving it from our partner.
We learnt all about African animals and their habitats! We played with these animals in the tuff tray and discussed where they live.
Week beginning 30th April 2021
We have been working hard on our number formation this week. We used paint brushes and sand to practise forming our numbers clearly.
We have been using numicon to practise representing numbers to 20. We used our knowledge of tens frames to help us!
We have been closely observing our caterpillar friends this week. We made observations, discussed what we could see and drew what we could see! We can't wait for the caterpillars to grow!
Week beginning 19th April 2021
We have been reading 'The Naughty Bus' by Jan and Jerry Oke. We have learnt all about the buses adventures!
We have been learning about different modes of transport around the world. We used different vehicles to create tyre tracks with paint!
The children used the crates to role play the Naughty Bus story. Children pretended they were passengers on the bus.
We have been practising our fine motor skills this week. Here is one example of an activity we have been doing in class. Children have been use board, plastic sticks and laces to create vehicle shapes!
Week beginning 22nd March 2021
As part of our work in Science, we have been planting cress seeds. We have worked hard to take care of our cress! Look how much they have grown in a week!
We made bunny puppets to retell the story of 'Home for Bunny' by Margaret Wise Brown.
We have been sorting 3D shapes based on their properties. We have worked hard this week to learn the names of lots of 3D shapes!
We have been working hard on writing sentences this week. We have been trying to remember the use of capital letters at the beginning of our sentences, finger spaces between words and full stops at the end of our sentences.

Week beginning 15th March 2021
Our Reception Garden Centre is still up and running! Children have been writing lists this week of items they must purchase from the Garden Centre.
The children in Reception have been reading the story 'Home for Bunny' by Margaret Wise Brown. Children worked hard to sequence the story and write about the season of Spring.
The children have been working hard to remember their bonds to 10 this week. They learnt a Number Bonds Rhyme to help them remember which two numbers make 10.

On St. Joseph's Feast Day (19th March) we created a St. Joseph's Altar. We used our class altar to pray to St. Joseph.
Week beginning 8th March 2021
We have been learning all about plants. We spent time this week planting seeds in to small pots of soil.
We used our fingertips to paint Mother's Day flowers for the special women in our lives.
In Maths this week, we have been learning all about number bonds to 10. We have been using the part whole model and tens frames to help us remember bonds to 10. It has been tricky, but we are working so hard!
