WB 12.01.26

Another busy week for Cherry Tree class. The week began with an independent character description using the skills they spent time developing the week before. The children worked hard to include figurative language and ambitious vocabulary. It was a tricky week in maths, where the children began to link multiplication and division, and worked on recognising that their known number facts could be used to solve larger, unknown number facts. In geography, we looked at how fossils are made, which linked to our Friday art focus on ammonites, and, in science, the children investigated the force of friction, exploring which factors affect the force of friction on moving objects. They tested friction in motion using skateboards and discussed why it was important to increase the friction on the top of the board where we put our feet, but decrease it on the wheels. RE was a discussion lesson around the miracle in Matthew’s gospel, in which Jesus healed the paralysed man. We spoke about how everyone involved might feel and why Jesus performed miracles. We had a road safety presentation on Thursday in which the children played games, learned about road safety, and discovered that, if you are under 12 years of age, and under 135cm tall, you need to be in a car booster seat for your safety, and, finally, in PE, the children continued learning to play Tchoukball, which they particularly enjoy as they are able to practise their skills by playing at break and lunchtime. Well done for a successful week Year 3!
