At St Joseph’s, our aim is to develop the knowledge and understanding that children have about the past and key periods/events in the history of Britain and the wider world. The aim is to develop an understanding of the changes over time – chronology; in order to increase their understanding of the present in the context of the past. In this way, they learn to value their own and other people’s cultures in modern multicultural Britain and, by considering how people lived in the past, they are better able to make their own life choices today. We aim to deliver high-quality history lessons that engage, motivate and inspire children to want to learn more about the past while developing key skills, knowledge, language and understanding. To ensure continuity and progression and to effectively develop pupils’ understanding of historical concepts and processes.
