At St Joseph's, we believe it is very important for our students to stay well informed about Environmental issues and take ownership within the school and at home to take care of our planet. Being an Eco-School empowers our pupils, raises environmental awareness, improves the school environment and also creates financial savings. Our Children are given the opportunity to become leaders in making a positive change to the wider world.
We incorporate tackling environmental issues into our curriculum where possible and have a strong link to our ongoing Ladato si pledge to 'Care for our common home'. We have tackled the issues of waste by monitoring that paper is being recycled correctly in classrooms and around the school, we plan to hold a ‘Paper-Free Day’ and are making use of our new compost bins to enable us to use food waste to fertilise our plants.
Previously we looked at banning single-use plastics at school, this so far has been a huge success with most students and adults using reusable materials whilst at school. We also planted 5 trees on our school grounds and grew our own vegetables in the playground last summer.
