01.03.23 - Stories in Different Languages - Today the children had a very different kind of reading, not there usual story telling day. The children were fortunate enough to have some wonderful parents who kindly offered to read to the children a book of their choice in their own language. The children really enjoyed this as it was a whole different experience.
01.03.23 - Author Visit - The children had a lovely visit from an Author who shared her own book and also read to the children in Lingala. The author shared her story, to why she wanted to become an author and what her inspiration was.
01.03.23 - Book Tasting - Parents were invited in to take part in a devised reading menu. They were able to share books with the children and we MUST admit the children thoroughly enjoyed this. It allowed children to introduce their parents to their friends; parents to meet parents and most importantly, shared books and a love for reading together!
28.02.23 - KS1 Breakfast Reading - Parents were invited in to take part in the breakfast reading event. They were able to share books with their children.
Some of our wonderful Year 5 students were able to take part in a day full of poetry writing with Philip Wilcox! He has made it his mission to share his poetry in the hope of sparking a passion for words and language and in the last few years, Philip has worked with upwards of 200,000 students in over 300 schools in 12 countries. The smiles all round show how much fun they had.
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we had an author visit from Nongo Mokonzo. Nongo set out with a vision to create a book that highlights the connections that her and her family have with the rainforest which is located in Central Africa (most parts of which are in the Democratic Republic of Congo). Animals of Our Land is a book about many of the different animals you can find in the Congo and how you can pronounce their names in Lingala. The narrative of this book follows the Mokonzo family, who are on an adventure in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They soon discover all of the amazing animals that inhabit the country such as giraffes, fish, and exotic birds. It’s a fun and uplifting experience that aims to bring joy to anyone reading it.
Reading Picnic
Reading and enjoying books is not limited to the classroom. We had our very own reading picnic!
