In Summer the Yr 2 children have been leaning about Animal Survival. The have been learning about growth in animals by exploring the life cycles of some familiar animals. They built on learning about the survival of humans by identifying the basic needs of animals for survival, including food, water, air and shelter.
In Summer 2, the Yr 3 children are learning the topic on Light and Shadows. The children learn about light and dark. They investigate the phenomena of reflections and shadows, looking for patterns in collected data. The risks associated with the Sun are also explored.
In Summer 1 the children in year 3 have been learning about Plant Nutrition and Reproduction. This project taught children about the requirements of plants for growth and survival. They described the parts of flowering plants and related structure to function, including the roots and stem for transporting water, leaves for making food and the flower for reproduction.
In Summer, the children in year 1 have been looking at Animals and plants. They enjoyed their dog visit and sorted animals into groups. On the other hand they learnt about the parts of a plant and conducted several experiments and went on nature walks. The children learnt how to take care of both, plants and animals.
In Spring, the Yr 3 children have been learning about forces and magnets. The children learnt about contact and non-contact forces, including friction and magnetism. They investigated frictional and magnetic forces, and identify parts of a magnet and magnetic materials.
In Spring the year 1 children have been learning about Seasonal changes. They learnt about the seasons, seasonal changes and typical seasonal weather and events. They learn about measuring the weather and the role of a meteorologist. Children understood the concept of day and night and recognised that the seasons have varying day lengths in the UK.
The Yr 5 ended their topic on Forces and Mechanisms by investigating the effect of changing gear on a bike. The children also described how they think clothing, helmets and even posture could affect air resistance while cycling.
The yr4’s ended their topic on ‘Sound’ by making musical instruments using recycled materials. They then investigated the instruments on its volume and pitch.
Yr3 ended their topic on Animal nutrition and the Skeletal system by learning ways to reduce their carbon footprints and saving energy.
Year 2 have consolidated their learning on Habitats by watching a Mystery Habitat video and finding clues within the video to identify which Habitat was being shown. The were able to comment on food chains within the Habitat, plant and animal adaptations to survive within the chosen habitat and they were able to describe the characteristics of the envirnment.
Yr 1 ended their topic on Human senses by using their senses to identify the different dangers in our environment.
Everyday Materials - In Yr 1children have learnt that objects are made from materials. They identified a range of everyday materials and their sources. Children investigated the properties of materials and began to recognise that a material's properties define its use.
Human Survival - In Yr 2 children have learnt about the basic needs of humans for survival, including the importance of exercise, nutrition and good hygiene. They investigated and observed how easily germs can spread from person to person by conducting a simple experiment.
Animal Nutrition and the Skeletal System - Children in Yr3 learnt about the importance of nutrition for humans and other animals.
Animal Nutrition and the Skeletal System - Children in Yr 3 planned and investigated the role of a skeleton and muscles in babies and adults.
Earth and Space- The children in Yr 5 learnt about our Solar System and its spherical celestial bodies. They described the movements of the Earth and the other planets relative to the Sun, the Moon relative to Earth, and the Earth's rotation to explain day and night.
Animal Nutrition and the Skeletal System - Children learnt about the role of a skeleton and muscles and identify animals with different types of skeleton.
Circulatory System - The children in yr6 learnt about the transport role of the human circulatory system, its main parts and primary functions. They also learnt about healthy lifestyle choices and the effects of harmful substances on the body. In addition, they conducted an experiment to check their pulse rate after doing a physical activity.
The children in Yr 5 learnt about the Earths rotation to explain day and night and how the sun moves across the sky.
In yr 1 the children have been learning about different types of materials and they explored different types of materials. They used simple ways of testing the properties of different materials.
03.10.23 Yr 4 trip to the science museum. The children attended a workshop on ‘It takes Guts’, where they learnt about digestion in human body. They travelled into the digestive system and looked at the importance of their food they eat. The children learnt about their teeth and how to keep them healthy.
28.09.23 Year 5 trip to Greenwich Planetarium & the Royal Observatory - The children went on a fascinating journey into space. They attended live planetarium shows and workshops. In addition, they got to meet astronomers and ask questions about space.
06.06.23 Year 1 Plant Innovate Project
26.05.23 - Year 4 Sound Innovate Project
26.05.23 Yr 2 making Bug Hotels
26.05.23 - Year 1 have been looking at ‘plants’ in Science. They have been exploring a range of wild and garden plants including trees. They have been identifying and describing the basic parts of plants and observing how they change over time. The children even grew their own cress.
24.04.23 - In year 2 we enjoyed exploring micro habitats.
20.03.23 - In Year 1 we have begun learning about the Human senses. The children sat in pairs with mirrors and discussed the similarities and differences between each other. They wrote these down in tables and compared it with other pairs. They are exploring each of their 5 senses and how they help us in everyday life. In addition, the children took part in an ‘apple tasting’ lesson where the children described the different tastes, textures and appearances of a range of different apples.
16.02.23 - In Reception, we have been learning about The Enormous Turnip. We used explored different types of seeds and soil in our tuff tray this week.
13.01.23 - In the Yr 1 topic of 'materials', the children explored a range of materials including , felt, leather, paper and plastic. The children spoke about the properties of each material and their differences.
16.01.23 - Reception - It has been freezing cold this week! The children used magnifying glasses to see the effect the temperature has had on water. They were fascinated to see the water we had left in the tuff tray turn to ice!
10.01.23 - In Yr 2, We are conducting an experiment to see what materials are degradable. We made our predictions, so now its time to investigate!
09.01.23 - We have been learning about the importance of Oral Health in Reception. We know it is important to brush our teeth for two minutes at least twice a day. We have begun our daily teeth brushing activity. Our teeth have been sparkly clean by the end of the day!
14.11.23 - Year 2 continued with our Human Survival unit in Science, this week focussing on nutrition. We explored the different food groups, talked about what makes a balanced and healthy diet, and then analysed some food diaries in pairs. Poppy Class were lucky enough to have a new teacher for their lesson: Mr Fola proved to be a very popular (if strict) teacher!
01.11.22 - Reception children have been taking a walk in space!
