Week beginning 22nd September 2025

Year 2 had an exciting visit to St. Margaret's Church in Barking to launch their Movers and Shakers topic in History. The children have been learning about Captain James Cook, a significant figure from the local area, who was married in St. Margaret's Church in 1762. They explored Cook's incredible voyages of discovery and his important work as a cartographer. During the visit, the children also had the chance to explore the beautiful church itself, discovering its rich history and importance to the local community. It was a wonderful start to their topic on influential historical figures!

This week, Year 2 have been busy developing their number sense by learning how to compare numbers and objects. Using fun activities and hands-on resources, the children have been exploring which numbers are greater or smaller, and how to compare groups of items using mathematical language like greater than, less than and equal to. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they build strong foundations in maths!

This Recycling Week, our class took big steps toward making our school a greener place! With the help of our brilliant Smart Council, we brainstormed creative and practical ideas to boost recycling around the school. From colourful poster campaigns to setting up new recycling stations, the energy and enthusiasm were inspiring!

We were also lucky to welcome a special guest speaker who shared powerful insights about why recycling matters—not just for our school, but for the planet. Their talk helped us understand how small actions can lead to big changes.

Together, we’re making a difference—one recycled item at a time!
