This week has been full of fantastic learning and joyful festive moments in Year 6! In Writing, students continued exploring Pig Heart Boy, focusing closely on key events in Cam’s life. They examined his character from two different perspectives—before and after receiving the transplant—and practised describing his aura using rich, descriptive vocabulary. In Maths, pupils developed their understanding of units of measure, working confidently with mass, capacity, length and distance. They practised converting between units and applied their knowledge to solve increasingly challenging word problems.
We concluded our Maafa topic in History by exploring life after the abolition of slavery. Students examined contrasting viewpoints from a plantation owner, a formerly enslaved person and an abolitionist, which helped them understand the long journey towards equality and the eventual creation of the Race Relations Act. In P.E., the class continued developing their basketball skills, while in Art students completed their final pieces inspired by issues they feel passionate about, linking their artwork beautifully to our historical learning on Maafa.
We also enjoyed several exciting out-of-class experiences this week. Our school Movie Night was a big hit. In addition, Years 5 & 6 were treated to a wonderful pantomime performance of Aladdin at Greatfields School. Christmas Jumper Day brought lots of colour and festive cheer, and a highlight for many was joining together as a school to watch the delightful EYFS Nativity production. What a brilliant and memorable week of learning and celebration!
