Online Safety

In today’s digital age, online safety is paramount. As technology becomes integral to daily life, it is crucial for our students at St Joseph's to navigate the online landscape safely and responsibly. Our school emphasises online safety within the computing curriculum, recognising its importance in preparing students for modern challenges.

To deliver effective online safety education, we utilise Project Evolve, a resource that supports schools in teaching key aspects of digital safety such as privacy settings, online bullying, and appropriate online behaviour. Our stand-alone lessons from Project Evolve provide pupils with engaging instruction that fosters a culture of digital responsibility.

We also collaborate with third-party organisations, including 'The 2 Johns,' who deliver interactive workshops for children and parents focused on practical strategies for safe online behaviour. They also provide continuous professional development (CPD) for our staff, ensuring they are well-equipped to instil online safety practices in their teaching. By engaging both students and parents, we create a supportive environment for online safety. Parental involvement reinforces the strategies taught at school, allowing students to benefit from a consistent approach to digital safety.

Our commitment to engaging lessons and open discussions about online safety is key to our educational philosophy at St Joseph's. We encourage pupils to ask questions and share experiences, fostering an environment of trust and openness, empowering students to voice concerns and seek help when necessary.

Every pupil at St Joseph's deserves to explore the digital landscape with confidence. As educators, we guide our students to be competent in technology and conscientious digital citizens. By embedding online safety in our computing curriculum and collaborating with expert organisations, we equip our pupils with the skills needed to thrive in a digital world. Through these efforts, we aspire for our students to embrace technology while remaining aware of their safety and wellbeing. St Joseph's is dedicated to nurturing informed and responsible digital users, prepared to face the challenges of the online world.
