St Joseph's Statement of Intent, Implementation and Impact for PE
At St Joseph’s Primary school, we use Complete PE to support the delivery of a comprehensive and engaging PE curriculum. We build further on this with an extensive extra-curricular provision, which is designed to promote development of the knowledge and skills needed for pupils to lead a healthy and active life. Through PE lessons, and the subject’s cross-curricular links to science and RSHE, children will develop an understanding of a healthy lifestyle, making connections between physical health and a healthy mind, with the vision that children will continue to adopt a healthy lifestyle beyond their time at St Joseph’s and into adulthood. At St Joseph’s, PE is fully inclusive and adaptable, enabling all children to access and enjoy lessons, develop and progress, build confidence and resilience, and grow their collaborative and leadership skills. The spiral curriculum is delivered in short units across two separate hour long sessions each week. This allows for sequenced and progressive learning across a broader coverage of sports, and provides opportunities for the children to build on their prior knowledge, as well as further develop their skills, year on year. A wide variety of extra-curricular clubs are delivered before and after school, with the aim to develop a passion for sports and physical activity in the children; this provision is further enriched through wider curriculum exposure to external sports clubs and opportunities. Our PE curriculum is delivered through value based learning, building on the Catholic values of our school, promoting respect, resilience, and inclusivity, through which the children will grow and thrive.
