TCS Mini Marathon
On Saturday 26th April, some of our lucky children had the fantastic opportunity to run the TCS Mini Marathon in London. they ran on the London Marathon course, a distance of either 2.6km or 1 mile, depending on their age category. The children arrived to the Horse Guard Parade with fantastic attitudes and incredible determination. They ran with thousands of children across the country and represented our school brilliantly, receiving a medal at the finish line. Well done!
Congratulations to Leja!
Leja entered the Canterbury Cup gymnastics competition and came home with 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and a trophy! What a fantastic effort - well done Leja!
NFL Borough Competition
Ten of our Year 5 children went to try their hand at NFL Flag Football with 8 other teams within the borough. Despite having no experience and not having played with the official equipment before, the children went in expecting fun, and managed to qualify for a second round match! By the end of the day, you would believe they had been playing for months, scoring several touch downs and making successful attempts at PATS (Points After Touchdown, much like a conversion in rugby). They had a fantastic day and really challenged the other teams there. Great effort!
Football Mixed World Cup
St Joseph's Children in Year 3/4 and 5 competed in the Dagenham Celebrate Diversity World Cup Tournament, against other schools within the Dagenham and Barking area. Our children represented the school and themselves with exemplary behaviour and attitude, working cohesively as a team. Due to their hard work and persistence, both teams won numerous games and really encaptivated that St Joseph's Positive-team spirit.
Great Athletes Visit - Victoria Ohuruogu
The children had a fantastic afternoon completing a mini sports circuit with Olympian Victoria Ohuruogu and her 'Sportivator,' Nicola. They cheered each other on and had an amazing time. This was followed by an inspiring assembly, led by Victoria, in which she spoke about her journey to become an Olympic athlete, and the patience and perseverance her journey required. The children were so excited to see footage of her qualifying to represent Great Britain, and were even lucky enough to be shown the bronze medal Victoria won in the 400m relay at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
James Haskell Rugby Event
Some of the children in Year 5 had the fantastic opportunity to experience some professional rugby coaching at Romford Rugby Club. The attended the event with many other schools in the area, and were lucky enough to meet rugby legend James Haskell! It was an incredible afternoon for everyone involved!
Huge congratulations to Amelia in Lily Class and her brother Raphael in Sycamore Class, who ran the Westminster mile! Another huge congratulations to Daniel in Olive Class, who successfully completed his second brown belt grading for Karate. He only has two left before he's a black belt!

Year 5-6 Girls Vs Godwin - Appleyard Shield match
Year 5-6 Girls Vs Godwin
Appleyard Shield match
Following on from our last match, the girls went up another gear and showed why Mr Campbell has such high expectations this season. We played Godwin, so there were huge bragging rights at stake. The girls performed extremely well, and the parents and Mr Campbell were more than proud. Following outstanding game play, we beat Godwin. knocking them out of the cup competition. The girls showed great team spirit, and demonstrated the skills and passages of play we have been working on during training. Well done girls, St Joseph's are proud of you!
Year 5-6 Girls Vs Richard Alibon
Year 5-6 Girls Vs Richard Albion
This was the girls’ first match of the season, and they were up against a very good, organised team. There were some fantastic individual performances, alongside a valiant team display. Special recognition needs to go out to Chimuanya and Rachel, as both their displays typified the fair but fighting spirit that St Joseph's is known for. The tenacity from the girls was to be admired and, if not for some erratic moments, we could have snatched a win. In the end, we lost the game 2-1, but we definitely announced ourselves as competitors to be feared!!!
Year 4-5 Boys Vs Eastbury
St Joseph's Barking put up a valiant displaying going toe to toe with a very well-organised Eastbury team. As a co-operative the team played extremely well, listening to the tactics given, and relentless in trying to win the game. Unfortunately, it ended in a goalless draw, but we are all very proud of the boys.
