Summer 2

Week Beginning Monday 30th June 2025

As we approach the end of the Summer Term, the children are continuing to work furiously, despite the heat. This week, Year 5 wrote fabulous informal letters in English and began working on their speech writing skills. they applied the same dedication in maths, where they multiplied, divided and sequenced decimals. In science, we looked at separating solutions into their original solutes and solvents via the process of evaporation, and in French, the children practised ordering food and drinks. We even had the opportunity to do some outdoor RSHE learning, where we discussed how we should live in our world and our responsibility for it, searching for examples of its beauty and examples of our neglect in the school field. It has been a very busy week, and the weekend is a well earned rest. Well done Year 5!

Week Beginning Monday 23rd June 2025

This week was another scorcher, but that didn't stop Year 5 from getting stuck into their learning! In English, they wrote fantastic letters from Maia to the twins as she is about to embark on her journey to Manaus in Brazil. In maths, the children worked hard on adding and subtracting decimals and applied their knowledge to a variety of problems. The children embodied the minds of Socrates and Plato as they pondered philosophical questions such as, 'What is justice?' and 'Why do natural things behave the way they do?' in our history lessons. Science was tackled twice this week, first in an experiment to filter homogenous and heterogenous solutions, and then to make a winch using paper, straws and masking tape! It's been a busy week, wrapped up with our final Journey in Love Day of Year 5.

Week Beginning Monday 16th June 2025

This week was a scorcher but it didn't stop the children having a blast at Sports Day on Thursday and smashing the batting skills during cricket. Despite the heat, Year 5 conducted a science experiments into the solute properties of different materials using water as a solvent. They also planned an informal letter for writing, began adding and subtracting decimals in maths, and continued working hard on their guitar performances ahead of their performance. Well done Year 5!

Week Beginning Monday 9th June 2025

This week was so busy we hardly had time to take any pictures! In English, we finished writing our non-chronological reports on an aspect of life in the Amazon Rainforest and illustrated them ourselves. In maths, we have spent lots of times working on describing and translating coordinates and shapes on grids. In history, we researched notable women from Ancient Greece in preparation for writing profiles on them, and, on top of all of that, we went on a school trip to the British Museum to participate in an augmented reality tour of the Parthenon. It was a fantastic day and could not have been manged without our wonderful parent helpers. What a busy week!

Week beginning Monday 2nd June 2025

The first week back was a busy one for Year 5. The children started a new book in English and began preparing to write an independent non-chronological report about the Amazon Rainforest. The began a new maths topic on Position and Direction, flying through coordinate plotting and description. In science, the children investigated the thermal insulation and conduction of different materials, and in history, they learned about the social hierarchy in the ancient Greek city state of Athens. In PE, the children played cricket with Mr Campbell, focusing on batting skills. It has been a busy week with lots of new learning. Well done Year 5!
