Week beginning 9th February
Our Year 2 pupils have been busy designing and building their very own wooden beach huts as part of the DT Innovate project. They worked brilliantly as a team, measuring, cutting, and assembling their creations with great care and creativity. We are so proud of their fantastic teamwork and the impressive beach huts they produced!
As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, our classes explored this year’s theme, “This Is My Place.” We spent time talking about what it means to belong and the different places where we feel safe, happy, and understood. The children shared moments when they feel part of a team, times when friends make them feel welcome, and places—both real and imagined—where they feel truly themselves. Through discussion, drawing, and group activities, they learned that belonging isn’t just about a physical space; it’s also about being valued, connected, and supported. It was wonderful to see the children reflect so thoughtfully and celebrate what makes their place in the world special.
This week in PE, Year 2 have been developing their ball skills, with a focus on throwing, catching, rolling, bouncing, and aiming with increasing control. The children worked in pairs and small groups to practise accuracy, coordination, and teamwork. They showed fantastic concentration as they tried new challenges, learned how to use both hands confidently, and encouraged one another throughout.
As part of Internet Safety Week, the children took part in a virtual webinar delivered by the 2Johns, who specialise in helping young people stay safe online. During the session, the children learnt about the importance of making sensible choices, keeping personal information private, and knowing what to do if something online makes them feel unsure or uncomfortable. The 2Johns used real‑life examples, age‑appropriate scenarios, and interactive activities to help the children understand how to stay safe while still enjoying the online world. The children asked thoughtful questions and showed great awareness of how to protect themselves on the internet.
Today we were thrilled to welcome Team GB gymnast Courtney Tulloch to our school assembly! Courtney, a world‑class athlete known for his incredible strength on the rings, inspired us with stories about his journey, his training, and the importance of resilience. After the assembly, he led us through an exciting exercise course where we got to try out some of the workouts he uses to stay competition‑ready. Everyone had great fun, and we learned a lot about teamwork, determination, and pushing ourselves to achieve our best. It was an unforgettable visit!
