Week beginning 16th September 2024
Year 2 kicked off National Fitness Day with an energetic whole-school exercise session! In the morning, everyone joined together to get their blood pumping and wake their brains up for a day of learning. The children had so much fun moving, stretching, and working as a team, setting the perfect tone for a healthy and active day ahead. It was a brilliant way to start the day and celebrate the importance of staying fit and healthy!
Year 2 had an exciting visit to St. Margaret's Church in Barking to launch their Movers and Shakers topic in History. The children have been learning about Captain James Cook, a significant figure from the local area, who was married in St. Margaret's Church in 1762. They explored Cook's incredible voyages of discovery and his important work as a cartographer. During the visit, the children also had the chance to explore the beautiful church itself, discovering its rich history and importance to the local community. It was a wonderful start to their topic on influential historical figures!
Year 2 had a fantastic time bringing the story of *Mr Underbed* by Chris Riddell to life through role play! The children stepped into the shoes of the characters, imagining what it would be like to discover a friendly monster living under the bed. They acted out key scenes, using their creativity to explore the emotions and adventures in the story. This fun and engaging activity helped deepen their understanding of the book while sparking their imaginations!
