St. Joseph’s were thrilled to welcome Rabbi Jordan Helfman to our school today. As we begin our other faiths week about Judaism, Rabbi Jordan was able to give us a good insight into the beliefs and traditions in the Jewish faith. He kindly brought in lots of artefacts such as a Menorah candle stand and an example of their holy book, the Torah. Rabbi Jordan also spent time during the assembly teaching the whole school a song in Hebrew. It was a fantastic way to begin our other faiths week.

On Friday 20th January 2023 Beech Class had the opportunity to visit Brentwood Cathedral as part of their Community Topic in RE. The children were provided with a detailed tour of the inside of the Cathedral with Fr Martin who is the Dean of the Cathedral. The children learnt about the importance of what it means to belong to a church community and the wider church community.  We would like to thank Fr Martin for volunteering his time to impart his wealth of knowledge about the Cathedral and it's hugely important role that it plays in the community and the diocese.

  • Lily Class Tour of St Mary and Ethelburga's Church

    Tue 17 Jan 2023

Today Lily Class attended their first 'Mass of the Day' with the pupils from Beech Class. After Mass, Fr Canon Young as part of the children's RE 'Community Topic' showed the pupils' around the church and explained to them about the special roles different people have for Sunday Mass. For example; the greeters, the priest, deacon, altar servers, readers, those who take the collection, bring up the bread and wine to the altar and the extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. He also explained how some people help prepare the church for Mass on Sunday e.g. flower arrangers and those who clean the church. Why not ask your child at home if they can tell you about the special roles some people have at Mass. Everyone in Lily Class would like to thank Canon Young for giving up his time to help teach the children learn more about the Church's key role in the Community and our Parish
