  • Laudato Si' Week 2023

    Fri 26 May 2023

Laudato Si’ Week at St. Joseph’s has been a truly special event. This week, the children have been learning about Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’. The children have been thinking about the message Pope Francis has sent out to everyone on earth of caring for our common home. The children have been talking about the small steps they can take to play their part in caring for our planet. They have covered topics such as recycling and waste (EYFS), sustainable farming and fair trade (Year 2, 3, 4) and our responsibility towards the poor and future generations (Year 5 and 6). We also reviewed our whole school Laudato Si' Pledge to see if we have been complying with what we have pledged to do this year.

  • Chestnut Court Care Home

    Thu 18 May 2023

Thank you to everyone from our school community to brought along flower offerings to our lady during the May Procession. While some flowers are still surrounding Mary in our school hall, other bunches of flowers were donated to Chestnut Court Care Home in Dagenham. The care home would like to extend their gratitude for our offerings. The residents of the care home enjoy participating in flower arrangement, so our flower offerings were very much appreciated!

  • Other Faiths Week

    Thu 18 May 2023

Miss Narvades kindly led a whole school assembly on Islam this week. It was a wonderful way for the children to learn about the Muslim faith. It also gave them an opportunity to see various artefacts from Islam.

  • Ascension Day Mass

    Thu 18 May 2023

We gathered today, together with the whole school and the parish community to celebrate the feast of the Ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ into Heaven.

  • National Numeracy Day

    Wed 17 May 2023

National Numeracy Day had our number!

We had a fantastic day filled with number-related activities. Children divided into groups to make their way to the top of the charts in a numeracy rapping challenge. There was a lot to take away from the Strictly dance challenge, that used numeracy to step in time. In addition to all this fun, children took part in Bobby Seagull's numbers quiz. Then, we all had to multiply our efforts to enter the National Numeracy Day competition. This involved drawing a picture of ourselves in our dream jobs an explaining how numeracy and numbers are so important for that job.

All of these activities = A great time had by all.

  • May Procession 2023

    Wed 17 May 2023

The month of May is dedicated to Our Blessed Lady, Mary our Mother. During this month, Christians both in church and at home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration.

Today, the children, staff and parents of St. Joseph's honoured Mary our Mother during our whole school annual May Procession. Our Pupil Chaplains read prayers that they had written about Mary to the whole school and a crown of flowers were placed on Mary's head. During the procession, each child in the school was able to lay a flower at Mary's feet with a prayer intention attached as a way of honouring Mary.

  • Rosary Club

    Wed 17 May 2023

Each week during the month of May, we honour Mary Our Mother during Rosary Club. Children gather in our prayer room and set their own prayer intentions for the rosary. We then proceed to say one or two decades of the rosary together. It is a wonderful time for the children to deepen their faith and pray together.

  • Year 6 End of SATs Week Celebration

    Fri 12 May 2023

We are so proud of our year 6 children who have worked so hard in revising and preparing for their end of KS2 SATS.

SATS week ran very smoothly and the children showed determination and great maturity in how they conducted themselves throughout the week.

On Friday afternoon it was time for a celebration of all their hard work and so the children enjoyed an ice-cream treat with our very own Mr Whippy ice-cream van!

  • Visit to the British Museum

    Fri 05 May 2023

As a part of our Educational trip on Ancient Egypt, the children visited the British Museum. They looked at the beautiful artefacts from Egypt which enriched their knowledge about Egyptian history, culture, people and many other interesting things. The Egyptian objects told them a story of life and death in the ancient Nile Valley. They also attended a presentation to explore the famous tomb-painting of Nebamun hunting in the marshes. On the whole the children along with the adults enjoyed their trip to the British Museum.
