Year 3 Sound Lab Workshop at the British Library
Wed 17 Sep 2025Today, Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic workshop at the British Library. After a short introduction, in which the children were astonished to learn that the British Library holds a catalogue of over 200 million prints, maps and sounds, they got to work on identifying how vinyl records, cassettes and CDs work. They earned that Thomas Edison was the first to build a machine that could record and replay sound in 1877, and had a great time making their own paper versions of his phonograph. They also made mini speakers with paper cups to augment the sound! Then, they used iPads to digitally record their own sounds, as well as import several from the British Library's catalogue. Finally, they arranged them in layers to create their own unique sounds. It was a fantastic experience and a lovely first visit to the British Library for Year 3.

Thu 11 Sep 2025St Joseph’s ranked in the top 100 School’s in the Country
We are delighted to share with you that St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School was recently ranked number 66 out of over 24,000 primary schools countrywide by The Telegraph. We were proud to be the sole school in the Barking and Dagenham borough to receive this highly prestigious recognition. Primary schools were ranked according to nine separate criteria including academic performance, behaviour and attendance among other things. This outstanding achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our pupils, staff, and school community without which, it would not have been possible. St Joseph’s are proud to provide an excellent education for all pupils, strongly rooted in our Catholic values, and this recognition inspires us to continue striving for excellence in all areas of school life. We thank you for all of your support in helping us achieve this accolade and truly appreciate the wonderful community and family that we have created in our school.
