Ash Wednesday Service
Thu 23 Feb 2023Canon Young kindly came into school to lead an Ash Wednesday Service for staff, pupils and parents. Our foreheads were marked with a cross of ashes to symbolise penance for our sins during the holy season of Lent.

Cake Sale for St. Rita Orphanage
Thu 09 Feb 2023A big thank you to all the parents/carers who donated and bought some of the delicious cakes at our Cake Sale for St. Rita Orphanage. It was an incredible turn out! Well done to the St. Joseph's Mini Vinnies who led today's sale so well. I am delighted to inform you that we raised £248!

Time Capsule
Wed 01 Feb 2023On Monday the children in Year 2 went across to the Abbey to take part in burying the time capsule that the children all took part in creating. This project involved many local schools in the community. The children were very excited to think that the time capsule will be dug up in years to come.

Athletics Competition
Mon 30 Jan 2023Children from Year 5 and 6 represented St Joseph's in an Athletics competition at Sydney Russell School. The boys and girls did fantastically showing great sportsmanship cheering each other on when competing in field and track events. The team came 4th out of 10 schools competing on the day and 8th overall out of 29 schools in the borough! We are so proud of all our amazing athletes! Well Done!

Rabbi Jordan Helfman
Mon 30 Jan 2023St. Joseph’s were thrilled to welcome Rabbi Jordan Helfman to our school today. As we begin our other faiths week about Judaism, Rabbi Jordan was able to give us a good insight into the beliefs and traditions in the Jewish faith. He kindly brought in lots of artefacts such as a Menorah candle stand and an example of their holy book, the Torah. Rabbi Jordan also spent time during the assembly teaching the whole school a song in Hebrew. It was a fantastic way to begin our other faiths week.

EYFS - Parish Church Visit
Thu 26 Jan 2023As part of our RE topic, Reception visited our Parish church, St. Mary and St. Ethelburga Catholic Church. Canon Young kindly showed the children around the church and pointed out some of the most important features of the church building. Before leaving, we had the opportunity to pray together with Canon Young.

Year 3 and 4 parent stay and pray
Wed 25 Jan 2023On Tuesday 24th January, Year 3 and 4 invited their families to come to school to share prayer together through a parental stay and pray session. The children prepared prayer cards to share with their families and set up a reflection area for families to pray and share their prayer intentions.

Beech Class Educational Visit to Brentwood Cathedral
Fri 20 Jan 2023On Friday 20th January 2023 Beech Class had the opportunity to visit Brentwood Cathedral as part of their Community Topic in RE. The children were provided with a detailed tour of the inside of the Cathedral with Fr Martin who is the Dean of the Cathedral. The children learnt about the importance of what it means to belong to a church community and the wider church community. We would like to thank Fr Martin for volunteering his time to impart his wealth of knowledge about the Cathedral and it's hugely important role that it plays in the community and the diocese.

Olive Class Visit to St Margaret's Community Centre
Wed 18 Jan 2023As a part of our R.E ‘Community’ topic, Olive class children were provided with an amazing opportunity to visit St Margaret’s Centre. The tour was lead by Carol, who is a volunteer there and helps the homeless, by providing them with food and shelter. Carol showed the children around the church and explained the history of the Abbey. In addition, she spoke about her charitable work and how she loved volunteering her time to the service of the Church. The children were inspired by her selfless nature, kindness and commitment to community life.
