  • Year 6 Educational Visit to the National Army Museum

    Year 6 had a knowledge-filled day of fun at the National Army Museum. We took part in a workshop centred around London during the Blitz and the jobs taken on by civilians to support the war effort - first researching, then presenting. We then had an opportunity to explore the museum’s galleries on a treasure hunt for significant artefacts. Year 6 showed excellent historical knowledge, so much that the helpers at the museum were astounded by everything they knew! Well done, Year 6, for an enthusiastic day of fun and engaging learning!

  • Going Forth Mass

    We were delighted to celebrate a joyful Going Forth Mass at St Mary and St Ethelburga Parish Church, marking the next step in faith for our First Holy Communion children. The church was filled with pride, prayer and community spirit as we honoured these young members of our school community.

    Their journey continues and we’re so proud of each child for embracing this special milestone. A heartfelt thank you to the families, Father Paul and everyone who made the day so meaningful.

  • Year 5's Parthenon Adventure at the British Museum

    On Thursday 12th June, Year 5 set of on an adventure to explore the past at the British Museum. Each class arrived at the entrance of the Ancient Greek exhibit and began a scavenger hunt that was set thousands of years ago. Using tablets to participate in the challenge via augmented reality, the children searched for ancient artefacts such as the chest of Poseidon, and uncovered the meaning of key vocabulary in the context of history. After that, the completed a more paper based scavenger hunt, completing a quiz using information in displays about ancient Greek childhood, medicine, industry and clothing. It was a fantastic day, and wouldn't have been possible without our wonderful parent helpers!

  • Year 2’s Royal Adventure to the Royal Mews

    Year 2 enjoyed a truly exciting day out with a visit to the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace! The children were captivated by a fascinating guided tour, where they learned all about the rich history and importance of the Royal Mews in supporting royal events. They were amazed by the magnificent state carriages, including the dazzling Gold State Coach, and delighted to meet the beautifully groomed horses that play such a vital role in royal ceremonies and processions. After the tour, the adventure continued with a fun-filled visit to the St. James’s Park Playground. The children had a fantastic time playing with their friends before settling down for a lovely picnic. It was a memorable day packed with learning, laughter and royal magic!

     

  • Laudato Si' Week 2025

    Laudato Si’ Week at St. Joseph’s has been a truly special event. Throughout the week, the children have been learning about Pope Francis’ encyclical, 'Laudato Si’ and reflecting on his message of caring for our common home. They have discussed the small steps they can take to contribute to the well-being of our planet. Topics covered included recycling and waste for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), sustainable farming and fair trade for Years 2, 3, and 4, and our responsibility towards the poor and future generations for Years 5 and 6. 

  • Year 6 Residential Thriftwood Day 3

    Today saw the last morning of activities before our return to St Joseph’s. Year 6 learned how to make an effective campfire before having an opportunity to toast marshmallows and make s’mores. In a last burst of energy our group finished how the other started. The leap of faith and axe throwing was a great way to end our trip. We then said a fond farewell to our amazing hosts and instructors before heading home on the coach. 

  • Year 6 Thriftwood Residential Day 2 Part 2

    The second part of our day saw our Year 6 pupils hit the water once more - this time on kayaks. They also showed excellent teamwork skills whilst conquering the heights of the crate stack. We then ended a wonderful day with songs around the campfire led by our amazing song leaders, Brad and Orion. An exciting day packed full of activities. We look forward to our next adventures tomorrow before returning home!

  • Year 6 Thriftwood Residential Day 2 Part 1

    Day 2 at Thriftwood got off to a great start. The children were refreshed after a good night sleep and their breakfast. This morning both groups took on the zip line, pedal cars and water roller. All the activities helped Year 6 work together in fun challenges set by our instructors. After a break for lunch children will be taking on the crate stack and Kayaking. Another update to come after the campfire this evening! 

  • Year 6 Thriftwood Residential Day 1

    Year 6 arrived and jumped straight into action at Thriftwood. The groups took part in Axe throwing and leap of faith before braving the cold water and showing excellent teamwork in the raft building exercise. Day one almost complete - just the orienteering game to come after dinner this evening. We look forward to giving more updates tomorrow. More photos to be added later! Good night from Year 6!

  • Year 6 are off to Thriftwood!

    This morning, parents, carers, and staff came together to bid a heartfelt farewell to our amazing Year 6 children as they set off on their end-of-year residential trip to Thriftwood. It was a special moment filled with pride and well wishes as we watched them embark on this exciting adventure.

    We hope their time at Thriftwood is filled with fun, friendship, teamwork, and new learning experiences. It’s a well-deserved opportunity for them to celebrate their journey so far, build confidence, and make lasting memories before moving on to the next chapter in their education. We’re incredibly proud of each and every one of them!
