Year 6 Trip to Westminster Cathedral
Wed 11 Oct 2023The children of Year 6 had a wonderful opportunity to visit Westminster Cathedral. We were treated to a guided tour of the Cathedral and learned about the fascinating history of the building and the important figures associated with it. The children visited St. Joseph's chapel for a moment of quiet prayer and reflection, took in the Byzantine architecture and the symbols included with in the building, and had to view important relics that are held within the Cathedral. Year 6 were then welcomed to take part in Mass at the Cathedral as a perfect way to end a trip full of reflection and continued learning of our RE topic about vocation and commitment.

World Mental Health Day
Tue 10 Oct 2023Today is World Mental Health Day. We support this day of awareness at school. The children of our school are our future, their mental well-being will be their strength.
Today the children took part in different activities to explore what Mental Health means to them.

Year 2 and Year 5 Fire Safety Workshop
Mon 09 Oct 2023Sandra, from the London Fire Brigade, came in to speak to Year 2 and Year 5 about fire safety. She taught the children all about how they can keep safe in the event of a house fire. Sandra also taught the children about the importance of having Fire Plans in a household. These Fire Plans should be rehearsed in case of emergency.

Yr4 trip to the Science Museum
Fri 06 Oct 2023The children of Year 4 went on a trip to the Science Museum, where they attended a workshop on ‘it takes guts’. They learnt all about digestion and the process of how it takes place in our body.

Year 5 trip to Greenwich Planetarium & the Royal Observatory
Fri 06 Oct 2023The children went on a fascinating journey into space. They attended live planetarium show and attended workshops, where they learnt about space and eclipses. In addition, they got to meet astronomers and ask questions about space.

Stone Ages, Bronze Age and Iron Age Year 3 Workshop
Fri 06 Oct 2023This week, Year 3 had the fantastic opportunity of attending an online workshop with an expert on prehistoric life from the Stone Ages, Bronze Age and Iron Age. They got to see a mammoth's tooth, learn about the Havering Hoard of Iron Age axe heads, and participate in a Myth Busters challenge, in which they had to decide which facts were true and false. Following on from the learning they have already covered on this topic, the children were really excited that they were able to identify a Stone Age hand axe from the online image! They all agreed they were surprised by the size of the mammoth's tooth, and would love to see more ancient artefacts.

Harvest Festival
Fri 06 Oct 2023St Joseph’s celebrated the Harvest Festival today. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to sing and give thanks for the Harvest this year. We took this time to pray for those who need our help and support through food donations.
A big thank you to everyone who donated towards our Harvest Appeal. We gathered a substantial amount of non perishable food that we will be donating to Barking Foodbank.

Year 1 Trip to the Young V&A Museum
Thu 05 Oct 2023Lily class enjoyed their trip to the Young V&A museum. They enjoyed looking at different toys from a long time ago and they had so much fun engaging in all the brilliant activities at the museum! They showcased their excellent listening skills and behaved impeccably throughout the day. Well done Year 1!

Year 2 Local Walk to Barking Abbey
Thu 05 Oct 2023Year 2 have been learning about significant individuals from our local history. They learnt about the life and work of Captain James Cook. Today, Year 2 had the opportunity to visit St. Margarets are Church in Barking Abbey. This church was a very important part of Captain James Cook’s history as he married his wife Elizabeth Batts there 260 years ago in 1762. It was a brilliant way for us to feel part of our local history.

Rosary Club
Wed 04 Oct 2023The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. Children from Year 1 to Year 6 have had the opportunity to attend Rosary Club every Wednesday lunch break in October and pray the Holy Rosary as a group. The children have been praying a decade of the rosary together and have been offering their own prayer intentions to Jesus.
The children of St. Joseph's have also been taking time during their day every day in October to pray either the Hail Mary, Our Father or a decade of the rosary as a class.
