Another busy week for Cherry Tree class. They started the week off by practising their expanded multiplication methods, then moving onto expanded division by the end of the week. They started coding using Scratch, in which they designed a block of commands for their sprites. Scratch is a fantastic website to teach coding, and it is completely free, so many of the children were excited at the prospect of trying it at home! We participated in the Spaceship Earth webinar, a live workshop focusing on Earth's satellites and their role in clearing space debris. The children participated live with school across the country, and participated in interactive votes about the satellites. Year 3 had the fantastic opportunity to experience the basketball taster session this week, ahead of the launch of our basketball club, which will be coached by Lamar Roberts of the Right Development Foundation. They had an absolute blast being taught by a professional basketball coach! Finally, this week, the children used Starburst to mimic the rock cycle, cutting the sweets into small pieces to represent sediment, then relying on the sugar to act like water minerals which bound the pieces together. This created their sedimentary rocks. Then, they added pressure and heat by sitting on the rocks, transforming them into metamorphic rocks that they could take home and eat. What a busy week! Well done Cherry Tree class!
