A very busy first week back for Cherry Tree class! The children have consolidated some maths skills and showed incredible resilience when faced with the challenge of multiplying 2-digit numbers using an expanded method. Monday afternoon saw us heading through the snow to the library, where Year 3 had a lovely hour exploring the book shelves and reading in all of the book filled nooks. In English, the children worked in groups to collect information about the main character from our new book, Krindlekrax. They sifted through the pages to pick out the descriptive language about Ruskin Splinter, and his parents Wendy and Winston. They created fantastic spider diagrams and used them to build word banks as they work towards a character description writing task. In science, Cherry Tree class investigated the effects of friction using the resources available in the classroom. Lily and Maranata tested the friction created between the wheels on the chair and the carpeted floor, then, compared it to the smooth floor. All of the children had a great time using friction to generate heat by rubbing their hands on different surfaces! Fantastic investigative learning by our Year 3 scientists, and a fantastic first week back!
