The festivities for St. Joseph's feast day began with a mass at St. Mary and St. Ethelburga. Upon returning to school, we delved into learning about St. Joseph's life and mission, enriching our understanding of our school's patron saint. The afternoon was filled with fun activities, which culminated in a fantastic school disco, an event which is always enjoyed by the children. The week was filled with end of term assessments, but was rounded off with a fantastic trip to the Museum of London Docklands. During the visit, the children took part in a fantastic practical workshop, in which they were able to build and test different levers and pulley systems that would’ve been used during the wharf’s time as a trading hub. In addition to the workshop, the children were invited to explore the museum, where they got to see some of the real-life lever and pulley systems they had built in the workshop. The children learned about the history of trade on the River Thames, the solutions to the traffic jams that the boats would cause on the river, the problems that came with ships that were wind powered, and how the area developed over hundreds of years into the business hub that it is now. It was a fantastic day, made possible by the children’s excellent behaviour, and the amazing parent helpers who volunteered their time to support the trip! What a busy week!
