A wonderful welcome back to St. Joseph's after the summer break! The new Year 6 class settled into their new classroom this week and started to take on the roles and responsibilities as the oldest children in the school. We had a week full of activities and an introduction to the topics we will be covering this term.

This week, Oak class were the first class to attend Mass on Tuesday. Canon Young welcomed them back into the new year with words of and wisdom and encouragement for the year ahead.

The children discovered and encountered their new topic subject for the Autumn term - Maafa. As an introduction we explored the key vocabulary from this fascinating and important subject. We also discussed the challenges that we will face while learning about the Transatlantic slave trade. Before embarking on our journey into Africa's past, they children carried out research projects on African nations as they are today - creating posters and presenting to the class.

In Maths, Year 6 revisited their learning on number and place value. They used their maths detective skills to investigate numbers to 10,000,000.

In English, Oak class were introduced to our focus text for the term - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. We started by making predictions about the text based on the front cover; before diving into the introduction of they text and analysing the specific vocabulary of the wizarding world!
