  • Year 6 Educational Visit to The British Library

    Thu 26 Sep 2024

Year 6 ventured out to The British Library for an educational visit today. On arrival, we were shown precious ancient texts that had genuine golden covers - these would have been given as gifts to monarchs of the past. Our guide then accompanied us to the learning room, where we learned about the art of ancient map making. We particularly focussed our efforts on 'The Ancient Mappe of Fairyland' by Bernard Sleigh. We research why map making was important and used old pictures and artefacts to research this map. We then discussed the best way to present our research; and decided whether online publication or print publications were the most effective form of present results.

HUGE well done to our fabulous Olive class who visited Pizza Hut  to enrich their learning about their topic Food, Glorious Food! They enjoyed their experience creating and preparing their very own pizzas. The children showed great enthusiasm and excitement as they waited for their pizzas to cook. They were then thrilled to eat their own delicious pizzas. What a fabulous lunchtime!

As always, the children approached the visit with interest and were a credit to the school.

Well done Olive Class, we are very proud of you all!

  • Years 2 and 5 - London Fire Brigade Visit

    Mon 23 Sep 2024

Year 2 and Year 5 had an exciting visit from Sandra, a firefighter from the London Fire Brigade! She taught the children all about fire safety, including how to stay safe if a fire ever happens. Sandra explained how to safely escape, where to go once outside and who to call in an emergency (999). The children also learned a catchy rhyme to help them remember to stay safe: 'Matches and lighters, please do not touch, because it can hurt you very, very much!' The session was both fun and informative, helping everyone feel more prepared to handle fire emergencies.

  • National Fitness Day

    Wed 18 Sep 2024

Today, the whole school marked National Fitness Day by coming to school in their PE kits, including the teachers! It's so important that we are active every day to stay strong and healthy, so we started the day with a fantastic whole school warm-up to prepare our bodies and our brains for a day of learning. All of KS1 and KS2 assembled on the playground to complete a stationery circuit of activities, including star jumps, burpees, heel flicks and high knees, energetically led by Mr Campbell. The children in Reception did a mini-circuit at breaktime and had a blast! Everybody made a fantastic effort! The circuit was spread around the football pitch at lunchtime and lots of the children made up their own activity stations as they completed their circuits. What an amazing day, well done everyone!

  • Year 2 visit to St. Margaret's Church and Barking Abbey

    Tue 17 Sep 2024

Year 2 had an exciting visit to St. Margaret's Church in Barking to launch their Movers and Shakers topic in History. The children have been learning about Captain James Cook, a significant figure from the local area, who was married in St. Margaret's Church in 1762. They explored Cook's incredible voyages of discovery and his important work as a cartographer. During the visit, the children also had the chance to explore the beautiful church itself, discovering its rich history and importance to the local community. It was a wonderful start to their topic on influential historical figures!

  • Year 6 Educational Visit to the Houses of Parliament

    Fri 13 Sep 2024

Year 6 started their year with an incredible trip to the Houses of Parliament. They were treated to a day filled with history and were fully immersed in the workings of UK Parliament. Our knowledgeable guide treated us to an interactive video about the history of parliament, before informing Year 6 about key events in political history that have taken place in the Palace of Westminster - including a reenactment of the events of the English Civil War (starring Oak Class). We then received the full tour of the House of Commons (sadly the Lords were in session so could only peek in); walking in the footsteps of the leaders of this country. Children had the opportunity to stand at the despatch box where the Prime Minister stands. they also conducted a mock vote on the issue of school hours - deciding on 'aye' or 'no'. Following the tour we enjoyed the wildlife at lunch in St James' Park and briefly walked down Whitehall to see Downing Street and the Cabinet Office, where the workings of government happen. An excellent first visit of many this year. Well done on your knowledge, engagement and questioning of our guide Year 6!
