National Fitness Day
Wed 18 Sep 2024Today, the whole school marked National Fitness Day by coming to school in their PE kits, including the teachers! It's so important that we are active every day to stay strong and healthy, so we started the day with a fantastic whole school warm-up to prepare our bodies and our brains for a day of learning. All of KS1 and KS2 assembled on the playground to complete a stationery circuit of activities, including star jumps, burpees, heel flicks and high knees, energetically led by Mr Campbell. The children in Reception did a mini-circuit at breaktime and had a blast! Everybody made a fantastic effort! The circuit was spread around the football pitch at lunchtime and lots of the children made up their own activity stations as they completed their circuits. What an amazing day, well done everyone!

Year 6 Educational Visit to the Houses of Parliament
Fri 13 Sep 2024Year 6 started their year with an incredible trip to the Houses of Parliament. They were treated to a day filled with history and were fully immersed in the workings of UK Parliament. Our knowledgeable guide treated us to an interactive video about the history of parliament, before informing Year 6 about key events in political history that have taken place in the Palace of Westminster - including a reenactment of the events of the English Civil War (starring Oak Class). We then received the full tour of the House of Commons (sadly the Lords were in session so could only peek in); walking in the footsteps of the leaders of this country. Children had the opportunity to stand at the despatch box where the Prime Minister stands. they also conducted a mock vote on the issue of school hours - deciding on 'aye' or 'no'. Following the tour we enjoyed the wildlife at lunch in St James' Park and briefly walked down Whitehall to see Downing Street and the Cabinet Office, where the workings of government happen. An excellent first visit of many this year. Well done on your knowledge, engagement and questioning of our guide Year 6!

Staff Retreat to Aylesford Priory
Mon 02 Sep 2024To begin the new academic year the staff of St Joseph's school went on a pilgrimage at The Friars Aylesford Priory to pray at the Shrine to seek God's blessing and to honour Our Lady. This was seen as an important way to come together as a school community and spiritually prepare for the year ahead. The pilgrimage allowed staff to reflect, pray and recharge before the busy term began. Many staff found the experience uplifting and it helped to foster a strong sense of school identity and shared purpose. The time spent at the historic Aylesford Priory allowed staff to deepen their knowledge of the school's Catholic ethos and values.
