Star of the Week - Yana      Kindness Ambassador - Yana         Resilience - Kaden

Fern class began this week by putting up our Pentecost hoop. Then we dove into the learning. We examined the celery stalks that had been left in the food colouring over the weekend, and discovered that, as the coloured water was drawn up the stalk, the xylem became visible as tiny holes in the bottom of the celery. The children had a lot of fun writing up their findings. They conducted another experiment into the size of leaves in the sun and the shade, which they investigated independently by measuring the leaves and drawing conclusions from the data. We have definitely become real scientists this year! In maths, the children calculated change from a given number of pounds and pence, then moved onto telling the time on analogue clocks to refresh their previous learning on five and ten minutes past and to the hour. In English, the children wrote fantastic Kennings poems, first based on the main character form this term's book, then original ones about a subject of their choice. The outcomes were incredible. In History, the children examined the development of Ancient Rome, from kingdom, to republic, to empire. They enjoyed drawing similarities between Roman society and our own, and were full of fantastic questions about the senate. Finally, working as a team, we rounded out the week beautifully, performing our class assembly which focused on the month of Mary. The parents left with smiles on their faces as they were proud of the students’ efforts. See you next week, Fern’s!
