In pairs the children got to choose a book from the table and complete a mini review before moving onto the next table and repeating this for four delicious book courses. The children had great fun discussing books and sharing their book recommendations.
Reading Picnic:
To continue to promote a love of reading on Thursday afternoon the whole school went outside to take part in a reading picnic. It was lovely to see all the children engrossed in their own reading book. The children were all given a biscuit and luckily the weather stayed nice!

Ash Wednesday Virtual Mass
Wed 02 Mar 2022All children from EYFS to Year 6 attended a virtual Ash Wednesday Service. Ash Wednesday begins the forty day season of Lent that leads to Easter. On this day, we come together to remind ourselves that we don’t always follow God’s ways and need to ask God for His mercy and forgiveness. Like God’s people in the time of the prophets, we wear ashes to show that we want to turn away from whatever keeps us from God. We come forward to receive ashes on Ash Wednesday to purify our hearts and grow in holiness so that we are prepared to celebrate Easter with great joy.

Monday’s Book Week Events

Throughout the day, excitingly there was a book sale where we had the opportunity to purchase books of our choice. The children in Year 6 supported the all children to explore the books on offer and also made recommendations.
In the afternoon, we had a thrilling reading event. We were given a range of book titles, and we had to choose one, which we wanted to hear being read. After reading the books, we engaged in book talk and made recommendations.

Fudge's visit
Fri 04 Feb 2022As part of Storytelling week, Reception read a story by Enid Blyton called 'Granny's Kitten's'. Enid Blyton was a huge pet lover so, Reception spent the week learning all about Pets! They spent the week learning about what animals make suitable pets, what pets need to survive and what food they eat to grow strong and healthy. Mrs Brooks kindly brought in her pet dog 'Fudge' to Reception. The children were able to ask her lots of questions about Fudge and his needs and were even able to have a gentle stroke. Fudge was so well behaved and the children learnt so much from his visit!

Storytelling Week
Mon 31 Jan 2022National Storytelling Week 2022
“Storytelling can be found enriching lives everywhere. The sharing between teller and listener empowers, feeding the imagination from one generation to the next.”- Society for Storytelling.
What is National Storytelling Week?
Once upon a time, storytelling was a way to pass the time. Now, it's an excellent way to entertain and teach each other new ideas. This is why National Storytelling Week is celebrated by people of all ages who read the likes of folktales, fairy tales, love stories and more.
Storytelling is a powerful tool that allows us to share stories that inspire and teach others.
How did we celebrate National Storytelling Week?
To celebrate National Storytelling week every class spent time re-telling our Author of the Moment book (Enid Blyton) in various ways. We performed lots of drama thinking about different character perspectives, playing with puppets and lego to help re-enact the story, creating dances to help express a part of the story, story mapping aspects of our book, designing new front covers and creating book reviews.
