May Procession 2022
Wed 25 May 2022The month of May is dedicated to Our Blessed Lady, Mary our Mother. During this month, Christians both in church and at home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration.
Today, the children, staff and parents of St. Joseph's honoured Mary our Mother during out whole school May Procession. Our Pupil Chaplains read prayers that they had written about Mary to the whole school and a crown of flowers were placed on Mary's head. During the procession, each child in the school was able to lay a flower at Mary's feet with a prayer intention attached as a way of honouring Mary.

Streets Ahead - year 5 & 6
Wed 18 May 2022This week, year 5 and 6 took part in an all-action performance workshop which allowed students to explore issues around road safety. We followed the main character Jordan through his experiences of travelling through the streets safely and the consequences of his actions. We were reminded of the green cross code as well as pedestrian behaviour and roadside discipline. Children brainstormed particular hazards on their journeys to school, where it is safest to cross the road and the different types of crossing. The children were very enthusiastic about the drama and some were brave enough to take part in acting themselves.

Catholic Citizenship Awards
Wed 18 May 2022Well done to John Ekale in Year 6 who was invited to Brentwood Cathedral to be part of the Catholic Citizenship awards. John was presented his award by Bishop Alan. John received his award for:
'Being an outstanding role model both in and out of school. He shows great maturity, especially in regards to his younger sibling and with younger children around the school. He has an extremely caring nature. He can often be found reading with and taking care of the younger children in the school in his own free time. He demonstrates great care towards his younger sibling throughout the day, he always walks her into school and ensures she gets to her classroom safely. John is a credit to our school and our community, he is incredibly kind, caring and is selfless in his help and support towards those around him. Well done John, we are so proud of you'.

Bishop Alan Williams Visitation
Wed 11 May 2022It was our great pleasure to welcome Bishop Alan Williams to our school on Wednesday. He visited the children in EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 and met all of the KS2 children during a special assembly. The children were given the opportunity to ask Bishop Alan lots of questions about his role as the Bishop of Brentwood. Afterwards, the children read out special prayers for Ukraine. During his tour of the school, we were very lucky that Bishop Alan was able to bless our prayer room. Our school Mini Vinnies were able to show him lots of our great learning as they walked around the school with him. Bishop Alan led the children and staff in prayer and blessed everyone at the end of the assembly. It was a wonderful occasion and one that the children of St. Joseph’s will treasure.

Easter Fun Run
Thu 31 Mar 2022As a part of our Easter Run run, the children were all dressed in their lovely bunny ears and tails. The Pupil voice along with the Minnie Winnies, helped Mr Campbell to organise this day for the children. They were in charge of arranging the children from different classes and encouraging them to 'keep going' while they completed their laps. The other year groups clapped, danced and cheered the children who were running. It was great to see this amount of enthusiasm amongst our children, beating the cold and sleet to complete their laps. Well done !!!!!

St. Joseph's Day Celebration.
Tue 29 Mar 2022We started our St. Joseph's Day celebrations by attending mass as a whole school at our parish church. On our return to school, we spent the morning learning more about our patron Saint and his life. We then used the example of St Joseph to celebrate all the ‘silent heroes’ who work so hard to care for and serve others like the adoptive father of our Lord, Jesus, did. We also spent time writing 'thank you' cards to the silent heroes in our local area. In the afternoon, the children spent time looking at art work of St. Joseph, specifically The Dream of Saint Joseph by Juan de Borgona. The children then created their own versions of the painting. We concluded our celebrations by creating class altars dedicated to St. Joseph. The children spent time making lillies to decorate their altars.

Easter Gardens
Tue 29 Mar 2022An Easter resurrection garden is a symbol of Jesus rising from his tomb. They usually portray the scene that Mary Magdalene saw, a tomb with a stone rolled away on Easter Sunday. This week, so many children brought in their Easter Garden Projects to school. They are all so creative and it is clear that the children have worked so hard to represent Jesus rising from his tomb. It is a beautiful reminder of the Easter story.

Fundraising for Ukraine
Thu 17 Mar 2022The Mini Vinnies and the Pupil Voice representatives have made a tremendous effort to ensure our school can help those affected by the war in Ukraine. Together, they organised a fundraiser that allowed children to come to school in their own clothes and bring in a donation. They also sought out establishments that are collecting donations for those affected. As a result, our school community has raised an amazing £517.85 for our Ukraine appeal today! The money raised will go directly to those affected by the conflict in Ukraine. We have also had so many generous donations for the Thames Road Collection Point. They will be delivering these essential items to Poland to support families that have left Ukraine. Thank you for giving so generously!
